what's the deal?

Story Circle is a gathering - a collective - dedicated to exposing writers and performers to a new audience. It is a highly participatory, low stakes environment focused on enjoyment rather than critique. If you have a short story you wish to share, or a poem, or a song - or anything in-between! - then Story Circle is the place to be. You could even deliver a lecture or infodump about your special interest, we will isten and applaud all the same!Conversely, you might just want to hang out and listen to some cool things, throw some emotes about, and generally vibe. That's awesome too!Story Circle is all about having a chill time and fostering creativity in the community.

OPENING TIMES

Saturdays 8pm EST/7pm CST/6pm MST/5pm PST
(Sundays 12pm AEST)
Other times may be added in the future

storytelling guidelines

what kind of tales can i tell?

Fiction works best in a space like this. Stories can be based in Eorzea, but not necessarily. Your imagination is the limit. Perhaps you want to retell a myth from Earth, or invent something new, or recount something silly that happened to you in Eorzea - whatever you choose, I'm sure you'll do a fantastic job!

do i have to submit stories first?

No, but if you're unsure about the content and wondering if it's venue-appropriate I am always happy to help.

what can't i talk about?

Any kind of bigoted or phobic content is banned.
Other than that, there's a couple of general rules to keep in mind. For example, it's probably not a great idea to tell a story that's part of a quest in-game - some attendees may not care for potential spoilers. Stories should also be free of sexual or especially violent content.

are there time limits?

Yep! Each storyteller gets 15 minutes - however, if you think you might need longer than that, we can definitely try and work it out.

storytelling guidelines

what about copyright?

You own the rights to your own stories under international copyright law, as long as the writing is indeed your own work. That's automatic and you don't need to claim it.Obviously, do not plagiarise, either published works or the stories of other players.

can i do cool shit?

Listen. Yes. A thousand times yes. Have musical accompaniment. Use emotes as much as you like. Go ham.

how should i prepare?

The easiest way to tell a story is to have everything you need in a document that you can copy/paste from. Macros work fine too, but that requires hotbar space. It's also a great idea to have everything in easily postable paragraphs. Good preparation is essential for entertaining stories, but off-the-cuff can be fun too...

do i have to book a slot?

Yes, and you can message me in-game or with the book button below - but some days will be quiet and the lecturn will be freely available.
