OOC Lore

The aesthetic of the guild is something that describes the IC and OOC tendencies of the Leaders and long time members - the assholes who’ve been there, hustled the hustle, fought the good fight, and are just tired now.  They want to have a few drinks, relax, and pick up the jobs when they like them and otherwise just be left to do their thing.  The kind of hub John Wick or Harry Dresden frequent, and maybe pick up work at.

The organization overall could be called “Alred’s Home for Wayward Assholes.”  Alred encounters people with talents that other organizations or society in general have let go by the wayside, recruits them, and leverages the hell out of them for mutual profit.  He would never admit it out loud, but he likes giving monsters a home, even nice monsters.  Most of the FC members are Assholes IC.  This is a known thing.

What that means is the FC is the kind of place where Ishgardian Madames, Retired Crime Lords, Inquisitors, Mad Wizards, Foolhardy Adventurers, Hunters, and Healers all end up in the same place because the liquor is good and cheap, the management is discrete, and no one asks the wrong kind of questions about anyone’s past.  Alred wants the jobs done, and while he has a few rules, he works with what is at hand.

Those fastidious in their research might find that Prufrock Ventures, Limited, is registered as a non-profit Free Company out of Limsa Lominsa.

OOC Rules and Regulations

We really only have one rule - “Be an adult.”

That rule, of course, covers a lot of ground.

If you have a problem with someone, talk to them.  If you can’t do that, talk to an officer, but we’re going to ask that first.  We will probably then insist on sitting all parties down to talk through whatever the problem is.

If you give someone shit for their gender, race, religion, identity, sexualtiy, or really anything that isn’t reasonable by an average adult, you broke the rule and are gone.  

We don’t claim to be a safe place.  We don’t claim to be anything friendly.  Being an adult means we respect you for who you are, and aside from some good natured ribbing no one should be judging you for that.  If they are, see the above clauses and the one rule about being an adult.

We rely heavily on trust - you trust the Officers and Leaders to do what’s best for the group as a whole, and we trust you as a member to speak up if you have problems, come to us if you’re not certain about something, and we all try to be reasonable, respectful adults interested in trying to have a good time online together.

IC Information:

Mission Statement - “To provide creative solutions for asymmetrical problems.”

Prufrock Ventures was founded with a single purpose - to make money, and ensure that money made its way to other parties in such a way as to be difficult to trace.  

Thankfully, when it was needed for more than that, Alred was able to repurpose one of his favorite shell companies to do something more.

Core Tenets

Diversity - Our Founder believes that having a wide array of talents and viewpoints brought to bear on a problem will result in better solutions, every time.

Adaptability - A wise man once said, “Crime and politics - the situation is always fluid.”  Prufrock Ventures know that is true in ALL situations.  We plan for things to go wrong, so that when they inevitably do, we’re ready.

Agility - It’s not enough to just be able to change - one has to do it quickly, efficiently, and on the fly.  By maintaining a broad spectrum of talents and approaches and an awareness of what could go wrong, Prufrock Ventures is always ready to change up their tempo to find a new solution to whatever situation is brought to them.

Morality - A wiser man than the aforementioned said, “If you can’t do something smart, do something right.”  Being in business above board is, in the estimation of our Founder, already stupid.  As such, well, at least we can do it right, make the good calls, and see that we don’t end up leaving things worse off than when we appeared.

-Investigations - Prufrock Ventures has a number of practiced and capable investigators with wide ranging networks available.

-Security - Almost all members of Prufrock Ventures are veterans of conflict, and we are able to provide any sort of small scale security element that may be desired.

-Retrieval - Contingent to the above two, Prufrock Ventures has repeatedly been able to get to hard to reach locations and extract both personnel and materials on demand.

-Acquisitions - Prufrock Ventures has connections to a manifold array of markets and specialists who can help you purchase the things you need that no one else can.

-Salvage - Some call it treasure hunting, others call it theft.  We call it getting old things out of odd places for money!

-Research - If you need information on something found, we can find the time to go through the greatest libraries in Eorzea and beyond, as well as delve into experiments as needed.

-Weaponsmithing - Services provided by our on site specialist and co-owner, Wind Moondark of Moondark Weapons, Ltd.

-Medical Care (for members and dependants only.) - We have an equipped infirmary providing the best in magical, mundane, and witchcraft healing for our employees.

-Hospitality - The Company Bar, dubbed “The First Mistake,” is open every other Monday Night to the public, as well as being always available for food and drink for our valued employees.

-Spirits - We are happy to announce we have begun brewing our own whiskey on site as well!

Lore

-The Company currently runs a bar, dubbed “The First Mistake,”  in the basement of it’s offices.

-The Company Offices are deep in the East Shroud, off the beaten path not far from the Bramble Patch.  

-Above the entryway is a small steel plaque with the following engraved upon it:

“What God abandoned, these defended,

And saved the sum of things for pay.”

-The current offices are located on a site formerly owned and operated by The Dragon’s Crown.  This organization, due to contractual obligations and arbitrated mediation, handed over the facilities to Prufrock Ventures Limited due to undisclosed circumstances.

-Yes, there really is a cannon in the back.

-One of the FC’s contracts is with the Inquisition of Ishgard.  It is technically under the table, but lucrative and helps keep certain doors open.
