The Taproom

The Riptide Taproom is a Medium to Heavy RP Venue; with a focus on the seedier underground nature of Piracy, Criminal, and Adventure work coming together. Ul'Dah's got the Quicksands, Limsa The Drowning Wench, and New Gridania's Carline Canopy, where fresh faced 'Heroes' go to cut their teeth. The Taproom is where those teeth get knocked out.Sponsored by the Golden Sands Trading Company, they host the Leves that others would balk at. Where results matter more than the tactics to achieve them.Sporting a unique blend of Allagan, Garlean, Doman and Eorzean design, the Taproom is a melting pot for people of all walks of life to find work and interact with bi-weekly fights hosted in the cage and the Shark's Den Casino. It's a place to take a load off and relax. Throw some dice, play some cards, drink a cold one, or just enjoy some fried pickles in good company.

Hosted every 1st and 3rd (sometimes 5th) Saturday. Doors Open at 7:30 CST. Fights start at 8 CST.

The Rules

1. The Taproom is a safe place for people of all backgrounds to be themselves. Language that is racist, sexist, transphobic, homophobic, or anything else of that nature will not be tolerated.

2.Respect one another. If you are doing something and someone requests you stop, please do so immediately. We are here to have fun. If a topic is a trigger, you have every right to ask that it not be discussed.

3. Consent is key. If you are unsure how an emote will be taken, or if you want to try something extreme, please get your opponent's consent before emoting.

4. Sexual harassment of any kind will not be tolerated. Full Stop. Any accusations will lead to thorough investigation by the owners and possible removal/banning from the venue.

5. Keep personal drama out of public channels and the venue. If mediation is needed, the owners are capable of doing so. Just ask. We'd rather solve the problem and move on than lose a valued patron.

6. Speak up. If there is an issue, we have to know about it to fix it. Our DMs are always open, and we will happily assist with whatever is needed.

Disclaimer We are all adults here. This venue is 18+. Act like it, keep your drama out, and beat the crap out of each other in the cage.

The Fights

In-Character actions have In-Character consequences. Signing up for the fights means you're consenting to being paired up against other fighters.Everyone wants to feel empowered, and that's the key to our system. The Golden Sands Roleplaying Fight System is used when fighting in the pit. Best way to describe it is like a fighting game, your roll determines how hard you hit your opponent. We utilize a deathroll-type system to indicate how much of your opponent's health you take off with each hit. There is no defense roll. This allows fights to flow quickly and avoids defense locks that last forever.Combatants start out at 500 health. The first to deal 500 damage, or the one with the highest remaining health after five rounds, wins. First post is determined by a coin flip. /dice party 2One is heads, two is tails.First attack is rolled out of 500./dice party 500Your next action is /dice party 500-whatever you previously rolled. So if you rolled a 9 its /dice party 491.So on and so forth.Special Note: We're a Roleplaying venue, as such cheating/throwing a fight is a viable option. There is always a chance of getting caught though. Thus, fighters may choose to roll out of smaller amount if desired. So if you're wanting to take a dive, you'll also be asked to do a /random 20 vs everyone else present in the room and could be called out if anyone beats you as a cheater. Ties go to the defender which is the observer.VIP Fight: VIPs can, with Staff member consent, require a staff member to fight in the ring vs any opponent.Paid Exhibition: For 200k if you have two fighters, you can slip the Proctor some gil to fit in a fight for you. This requires the OOC consent of the Proctor and the fighters.

The Barrier

The ring is shielded by a combination of aether wards and Allagan hardlight barriers to protect the crowd. It projects an invisible field once activated that prevents any foreign bodies from entering or leaving the space and filters the air of foreign particles. Once activated, the field cannot be taken down until the fight is over, for any reason. It has two modes, detailed below.

Temporal Anomaly

This setting is the default setting for the cage. Creating a localized temporal field powered by Dynamis, once erected anything that happens within the barrier is reversed. This doesn't abate pain, death, dismemberment. Nor the memory of such. The containment field prevents aether from returning to the Aetherial Sea upon death though and at the end of the fight all wounds are healed to what ever state they were at the time the barrier was activated.Go Hard or Go Home.

Aether Containment

An adjusted setting that can be elected for by those wanting to walk away with more than a memory of their time in the cage. Powered by aether as opposed to dynamis, the containment field reacts to being hit, and the fighters will suffer lasting injury. It will stop death but won't put an arm back on, or eyeball back into its socket.Luckily the Riptide has an infirmary.Special Note: Requires consent of BOTH fighters.

The Shark's Den

All amounts listed are in-game gil. Full explanations of the rules can be found in our Discord server.

Corsair's Dice

Three dice are thrown into a pint glass, and bets are placed in the six squares before the game master. Each of the six squares correspond to a side of the dice. Multiple people can bet on the same number, but one person cannot bet on multiple numbers.Once the bet is placed, the Game Master caps the glass and shakes it three times before turning it over and revealing the results.

At the end of this round totals are revealed. Highest value wins. You can re-raise if you are raised against. If a player cannot match the bet, they can call 'all in'.
