    ♦ Rules ♦

    • No bidding on people you already know! - These auctions are set up to help people connect who might not otherwise meet. While it's tempting to bid on your friends or partners, we ask that you refrain from doing so and give someone else the opportunity to make a new contact and - hopefully - friend!

    • Bidding in increments of 5,000 gil, only. - To help our staff watch bids, we ask that you keep your bids to increments of 5,000. Bids with 'loose change' will not be honored. Additionally, raising the bid by more than 100,000 gil at a time is not permitted, and will not be honored. Please see the FAQ for more details and our reasoning.

    • Please give your winning bid to the money manager, and claim your bid at the close of the event! - These can get a little hectic and we like to try and keep things smooth. Bidders, you'll give your winning bid to the money manager, and those who were purchased can pick their gil up at the close of the event. If you need to leave early, please just send a quick /tell to the money manager during the event.

    • Dates are baseline platonic! - We encourage players to communicate privately on what more they are alright with. Some are fine with a more romantic theme to their date, some might just be looking for new friends. Communication is important.

    • No more than 1 win per person, and no proxy bidding. - Please allow others to win and make new friends, and while we appreciate that some might want to help their friends make new contacts, we consider it against the spirit of the game to throw down your own money for someone else.

    • All characters and players must be at least eighteen years of age or older. The estate is a brothel and we are a group of individuals who network with other adults. For the comfort of all given the themes we create in, we ask that this be respected. Anyone found to be underage will be asked to leave.

    • We are a Lalafell & LGBTQA+ welcoming space. - The Lantern caters to adults of all races, genders and orientations. If you're found being a hot mess because you aren't capable of keeping uninvited opinions to yourself, you'll be asked to leave. These auctions are for platonic dates, there is no reason to get mean.

    • We may take sign-ups at the event, but only if spots open up.

    ♦ How to Sign-Up ♦

Failure to adhere to the following information may result in an applicant not being included, or being removed from the running.

Please join the Discord and sign up in the appropriate thread - if you need help finding it, just let folks know you're here for the date auction and we'll get you pointed the right way!

    ♦ Important Sign-Up Information ♦

In an effort to offer some variety to the roster, we may slot someone in who joins after others. If there's an abundance of one race, we'll switch out others to make up for this if we have someone available of another. We understand that this may feel unfair, but as a collective of people who attend many events, we want to give people an opportunity to display the characters that they enjoy playing without feeling like they have to play a specific race or gender in order to get attention. As we have a limited roster in comparison to other events of this same nature, we ask that those who participate in one auction give others the chance to participate in the next. You're always welcome to slot in as a backup, but we'd like to share the wealth! We would also like applicants to understand that it is their responsibility to communicate with the player behind the character that purchases them. Failure to follow through on a date from your end will result in you not being permitted to participate in an auction again. We know life happens, but communication is key and important.Lastly, please remember that this is all for fun. Do not let gil determine the worth of your character or your role-play! You're amazing and doing great, so just relax and have fun.

    ♦ FAQ ♦

Q: What do you consider 'loose change' and why isn't it accepted?
Auctions tend to get very heated in the bidding, and we don't want folks to be tossing out irregular numbers that slow the staff down. Keeping them at a stable increment really does help us, we promise!
    Q: Why can't I bid more than 100,000 at a time?
In our experience, part of the fun of an auction of any type is the thrill of the bid. Watching a group of people slowly price-climb until they can't go any higher is just part of the game. This becomes less fun when someone jumps the amount by such a high number that it discourages that playful thrill-bidding and simply feels unsportsman-like.
Q: How much do auctionees get?
Everything. For us at the Red Lantern, we want to encourage networking between our members and the community and work on fostering long-term connections. We can't put a price on that! So, we focus on providing the platform and creating an enjoyable experience. IC'ly, the Lantern is a business, so if you feel like tipping our staff, you can do that directly! If you wish to donate to the Lantern itself, speak with Tsukiko Tanshi!
Q: I joined first, but someone else got the slot. Why?
For our first few rounds, we're learning what works for us. We don't run on a seniority system, we run on a variety system. We've encountered many events where everyone participating is a member of one or two races or almost all one gender, and we want to try and break away from that. In addition, we'll give the spot to someone who hasn't been a part of our auctions before rather than someone who has.
