Tea Ceremony Guide
Welcome! This page is for those who have reserved a special tea ceremony for either an individual or a small group, or for those just curious about the process of the ceremony itself and want to learn more! A tea ceremony is meant to bring about mindfulness, clarity, and relaxation. To ensure the maximum benefit and enjoyment for all participants, we ask that you please read this guide carefully. Should you have questions, please ask them before the ceremony begins. While the structure of the ceremony may differ depending on the package for time's sake, the following rules still apply:
1. Be respectful. This goes without saying, but showing proper respect to your host and those around you is not only important for the ceremony itself, but for your daily life.
2. Limit your speech. This ceremony is about mindfulness and relaxation. Words can be a distraction from what's around you. Focus instead on listening to the sounds of nature and your surroundings. Show your appreciation through your actions and gestures, rather than with words.
3. Arrive on time. Not too early to make your host rush, and not too late to make them wait for you. We are aware real life things may get in the way of a reservation, but if that is the case, please let your host know prior if possible if you will be late or unable to make your appointment via in-game tell or through Discord. Appointments can always be rescheduled if needed. Now that you've been made aware of the three basic rules, click which option below is the one you've purchased or would like to know more about. As a quick reminder, Chakai is the shorter one, and Chaji is the longer one, and Monthy Event is the modified version of the ceremony that we will attempt to host every month!❀•°❀°•❀ ❀•°❀°•❀ ❀•°❀°•❀ ❀•°❀°•❀Disclaimer: Actual tea ceremonies require months and even years of training for the host to perform the ceremony properly. We do not claim to be trained experts in this art, nor wish to offend those who've dedicated their lives to learning this, but just wish to bring the joy of the tea ceremony to those in the RP community.

Onsen
Enjoy a relaxing stay in our onsen! Located in Room 5, let the hot water coupled with the naturalistic melt away your troubles. There is no cost to enter, so come in at your leisure and stay as long as you like.
Onsen Etiquette
Rule No 1: Wash Before Entering the Onsen
There is a shower and changing area to the side. Please make sure to thoroughly clean yourself before entering the water.Rule No. 2: Clothing Requirements
In most onsens, it is a requirement for full nudity, as clothing, towels, and other garments are considered "dirty" and should never be worn in the onsen. However, we are a SFW-venue, so we ask that you please wear at minimum a swimsuit.Rule No. 3: Modesty is Appreciated
Modesty is expected even with the limited clothing. Use one of the small towels to cover your private areas as you move between areas of the room.Rule No. 4: Never Dip Your Towel in the Water
This harks back to Rule No. 2. and the notion that towels are dirty and should not come into contact with the water. Most people simply wear the small cloth on their heads. It may look funny, but it’s the easiest way to not lose your towel and not dirty the water at the same time.Rule No. 5: Don’t Go Under (Or Get Your Hair in the Water)
It’s pretty much forbidden to dunk your head under the water in an onsen — and for good reason. No one wants mouth germs floating around in an environment where bacteria thrive. It’s also a good idea never to dip your hair into the water, mostly to prevent oils and residual grooming products from dirtying the water, but also to simply keep hair out of the baths drains.Rule No. 6: Stay and Relax After your Dip
There are plenty of areas in the Jade Cat where you can relax after your dip in the waters, so take advantage of them when you can!

For the full benefits of the ceremony, please do your best to follow the steps as closely as you are able. Should you have questions, please ask them before the ceremony begins.*Note: This page has yet to be updated to our new location and set-up. Please look to this only as a reference until this note is gone, meaning it's been updated.
1. Before your ceremony begins, please wait outside in the seating area to the right of the building. Take the time to admire the garden and listen to the sounds of nature around you.

14. Your host will return shortly to fetch you with a bow. Before entering the building, make sure to cleanse your hands and mouth again at the fountain.
15. After following them inside and you walk back to the waiting room, the hanging scroll will have been replaced with flowers, specially chosen for your ceremony. Take a moment to examine them before taking your seat once more.
16. The host will then begin preparing the first type of matcha - koi-cha (thick tea).
17. The eldest guest then asks the host about where the matcha was purchased from and the name of the main sweet.
18. Once the koi-cha is finished, the charcoal and incense are burned again and you will be served the sub-sweet.
19. After you are finished, the usu-cha (thin tea) is prepared and served.
20. After the usu-cha is finished, the host will escort you back out to the garden, and you are to bow to them first to show your thanks and appreciation before leaving quietly.
Tea Ceremony Event
This is our attempt at hosting a regular monthly tea ceremony event. While typically speech is very limited, as this is meant to have people learn more about the ceremony itself, you are welcome to speak more freely, but please remember to be respectful. While waiting for the ceremony to begin In the waiting area, you're more than welcome to also ask the attending staff member(s) about the ceremony as well while you wait.
1. Before the ceremony begins, a staff member will escort you to the waiting area on the main floor and give you a cup of hot water to cleanse your palate.
2. Once you are finished, the staff member will escort you outside to wait in the garden before leaving quietly. While you wait, take the time to admire the garden and listen to the sounds of nature around you.
3. Your host will come and greet you with a bow. They will then head silently into the cafe. You will do the same, but first, make sure to cleanse your hands and mouth with the bamboo water fountain in the garden before heading inside.
4. Upon entering, proceed up the stairs to the ceremony area. Before going through the sliding doors, pause and take a moment to look to the alcoved wall section on the side wall where the hanging scroll and flowers the host chose specifically for this ceremony will be displayed. When you are ready, proceed through the center sliding doors and take a seat on one of the lighter-colored cushions around the hearth.
5. Once you are seated, your host will come into the room and greet you before taking their place in the center.
6. The host will then tell you about the scroll they have chosen for the ceremony.
7. You will then be served a kaisekai meal of steamed rice, miso soup, and three other dishes along with some sake.
8. Once the meal is over, the host will begin burning the charcoal and light the incense.
9. After the incense is ready, you will then be served the main sweet.
10. Once you're done eating, you may ask the host about the flowers they chose or other questions you have about the ceremony.
13. The host will then begin preparing the first type of matcha - koi-cha (thick tea, highly caffeinated, like an espresso). After everyone has been served, they will tell you where the tea was purchased from and what the main sweet was.
14. Once the koi-cha is finished, the charcoal and incense are burned again and you will be served the sub-sweet.
15. After you are finished, the usucha (thin tea, a more watered-down version) is prepared and served.
16. Lastly, once you are finished, you may stand up and bow to the host in thanks before taking your leave or heading downstairs or to the onsen to relax.
